Client Background: This government office building is located in the heart of Kingston, Queensland, with the main focus of the project being to not only create acoustically healthy spaces, but to also promote collaboration amongst the community.
Challenge: the department faced acoustic challenges within several offices and boardrooms in their office environment. The open design and hard surfaces resulted in excessive noise reverberation, leading to reduced speech intelligibility and an overall disruptive atmosphere during meetings and work sessions.
Solutions: To address the acoustic concerns, the department collaborated with Sydney Acoustics, who installed several solutions to suit the desired end outcome for both performance and aesthetics. After a thorough assessment, Sydney Acoustics installed the following products:
Autex Acoustics’ 12mm Cube panels with a custom-printed first nations designs to enhance connection to community. The Autex Acoustics Cube panels are known for their sound-absorption capabilities, making them an ideal solution for improving the acoustic quality of the spaces.

Autex Acoustics’ Raft Mini Beam profile in Pinnacle (Navy) installed as a dividing screen to create privacy, whilst not fully enclosing the spaces, enhancing collaboration and connectivity.

Implementation: Sydney Acoustics meticulously executed the installation process, ensuring minimal disruption to the department’s operations. The installation team strategically placed the Autex Acoustics Cube panels on the walls of the boardroom and selected offices throughout the building.
Results: The installation of the Autex Acoustics Cube panels yielded remarkable results for the department:
- Improved Acoustic Environment: The panels effectively reduced noise reverberation and absorbed excess sound, creating a more comfortable and focused working atmosphere. Meetings and discussions are now more intelligible, enhancing overall communication.
- Visual Enhancement: The custom print designs contributed to the acoustics but also acted as a visually engaging element. The panels transformed from mere functional additions to artistic features, adding character to the spaces.
- Enhanced Productivity: With the reduction in noise distractions, employees experienced improved concentration levels and better productivity. The enhanced acoustics created an environment conducive to creative thinking and collaboration.
- Client Impressions: Clients visiting the boardroom and offices are impressed by both the improved acoustics and the innovative use of the custom-printed panels.
Conclusion: The partnership between the department and Sydney Acoustics resulted in a successful acoustic panel installation using Autex Acoustics 12mm Cube panels. The custom first nations print not only addressed the acoustic challenges but also added a personalized and visually appealing element to the spaces. The project’s success showcased Sydney Acoustics’ expertise in acoustic solutions and their ability to seamlessly integrate functionality with design aesthetics. The department now enjoys an acoustically optimized environment that fosters better communication, productivity, and connectivity.
